Cancer

 – a common term frequently used to indicate various types of malignant tumours including carcinoma and sarcoma. It arises from the abnormal and uncontrolled division of cells that then invade and destroy the surrounding tissues. Spreading of cancer cells (metastasis) may occur via the blood stream or the lymphatic channels or across body cavities thus setting up secondary tumours at sites distant from the original tumour. In each individual primary tumour has its own pattern of local behavior and metastasis; as for example bone metastasis is very common in breast cancer but very rare in cancer of the ovary. There are probably some causative factors but many of them still unknown e.g. cigarette smoking is associated with lung cancer, radiation with some some bone sarcomas and leukemia.

Canine Hunger

– hunger like that of dog.
Canker

 – [cancrum] ulceration, mainly of the lips & mouth [cancrum oris].
Cannonading

 – to fire cannon repeatedly.
Canthi

Carbogenoid constitution

 – constitution with intolerance of carbon or carbon products.
Carbohydrates

 – a large group of ‘organic compounds’ consisting of the elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen only, are termed as carbohydrates. They comprise (1) Sugars – (i) monosaccharides e.g. grape sugar. (ii) Disacchrides e.g. cane sugar (iii) Tri or tetra saccharides (2) Non - Sugars - polysachharides e.g. starch and cellulose.

Carbunncle

 – boil with multiple drainage channels. The infection is usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus.
Cardiac

 – (1) relating to or affecting heart (2) or relating to upper part of the stomach.
Caries

 – decay and crumbling of the substance of a bone or a tooth. For example in caries tooth, caries appears to be induced by the action of Streptococcus bacteria on carbohydrates.Acid formed by the breakdown of carbohydrate by the bacteria gradually etches and decomposes the enamel of the tooth. If left unrepaired it progressively destroys the tooth completely.
